Differences between certification, verification and validation

13.07.2023

Verónica Sanz, technical manager of Sustainability, Validation and ESG Verification at OCA Global, came to Ecogestiona's program to talk about these terms and what differentiates them.

Corporate reporting on environmental, social and governance issues is about to change the day-to-day life of companies. The European Commission has open for public consultation until July 7 the Draft European sustainability standards that, on the other hand, has already begun its transposition into national legislation.

What can you tell us about certification, verification and validation??

"According to IS0 17029, Verification is the confirmation of a statement by providing objective evidence that the specified requirements have been met. Validation, on the other hand, is the verification that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure that future performance complies with the established requirements. And certification is associated with the pricing of management systems."

"Sustainability is verified because there is no certifiable management system for sustainability. What there are are reporting standards that must be verified."

"Verification is the verification that the information given to us by the company is correct. You have to sit down, document it, make calculations and then call us to verify them."

We thank Veronica Sanz for her outstanding representation of OCA Global in the Ecogestiona program. Her dedication and commitment to environmental protection have been exemplary, and her participation in the program has contributed significantly to raising awareness among the audience about the importance of sustainability and green management.
